Tambopata Expeditons 3 Days

Day 1: Cusco – Puerto Maldonado – Tambo lodge – Monkey Island.

On arrival of your flight or bus to Puerto Maldonado, our guides or Staff will meet you at the airport or bus station and transfer you to the Centre of the town where you can experience the exotic local Market depending on the arrival time we may have the first lunch here or while travelling to the lodge or in the lodge.

Your excess luggage will be stored safely in our office in Puerto Maldonado and then we will continue onto the Capitania port.

We take our motor boat along the Madre de Dios river for approximately 1 hour to Tambo Eco Lodge and soon after leaving port sail directly through the confluence of two large jungle tributaries of the Amazon,

the Madre de Dios and the Tambopata; the majestic sight of the meeting of these two mother rivers opens us to feel a deeper contact with mother nature. A cool welcome drink awaits you will be shown to your bungalows to settle in.

In the afternoon we will take a 10 minutes boat journey to Monkey Island where you appreciate a great diversity of monkeys such as the:

capuchin, tamarines y squirrel monkeys we will put on a show of swinging through the treetops charging down the trunks of the large trees that form their home in order to accept food from your hand or insect you up close! At night we can appreciate well as raccoons, capybaras and a rich variety of birds.

Return to Tambo Eco Lodge, for a traditional dinner. Nocturnal activities are available each night.

Day 2: Tambo lodge – Sandoval Lake – Ese´eja Native Family.

After a great jungle breakfast, we take 1 and half hour walk to the famous Sandoval Lake, passing through virgin forest, home to beautiful flora. Its way by immense ancient trees and entangled vines; multihued flower and fauna including:

Giant Otters, birds, coloured butterflies, alligators, turtles, and variety of fish. We will spend few hours in canoe on this one of the most beautiful lakes in region.

One of the most awe inspiring features of the jungle in the enormity of the trees and you will have the experience of standing at the base of the huge kapok tree.

We may take a short visit on the traditional farming areas to see the production of regular supplies.

12.30 p.m. Time for the lunch.
In the afternoon, we take to the majestic Madre de Dios River and set course downstream for an hour for the Native Community of Ese´Ejas, the largest Ese Eja community numbering about 200 families, of which we will be visiting two.

From our boat will be able to observe the rich wildlife of the jungle along the banks of the river and the magnificent flora of this natural pharmacopeia. The Project “Rescuing Cultural Values“, situated on Gamitana Island, is working with two families who will show us the culture of their ancestors, their language and customs, clothing and dances.

In our modern, civilized world we have all but forgotten the existence of ancestral cultures and traditions. An ancient indigenous tradition like the Ese´Eja reveals to us the customs and way of life of indigenous peoples.

They gift us with the opportunity to have a direct contact with a people of ancient warriors and hunters and to share their ancestral ways. We can return this gift by helping their economy and buying some of the products they make.

Day 3: Yakari – Parrot’s Clay Lick – Puerto Maldonado – Cusco or Lima.

Very early departure to witness the spectacle of the Parrot’s Clay Lick, sunrise on the rivers as we journey one and half hours to the wall before hundreds of green parrots congregate at first light each morning.

We will generally be able to spend about one hour here before reboarding the boat to enjoy breakfast on our return to Puerto Maldonado. Check in 2 hours before your flight on to Cusco or Lima.
