Its way by immense ancient trees and entangled vines; multihued flower and fauna including: Giant Otters, birds, coloured butterflies, alligators, turtles, and variety of fish. We will spend few hours in canoe on this one of the most beautiful lakes in region.

One of the most awe inspiring features of the jungle in the enormity of the trees and you will have the experience of standing at the base of the huge kapok tree. We may take a short visit on the traditional farming areas to see the production of regular supplies.

12.30 p.m. Time for the lunch.

In the afternoon, we take to the majestic Madre de Dios River and set course downstream for an hour for the Native Community of Ese´Ejas, the largest Ese Eja community numbering about 200 families, of which we will be visiting two.

From our boat will be able to observe the rich wildlife of the jungle along the banks of the river and the magnificent flora of this natural pharmacopeia. The Project“Rescuing Cultural Values“, situated on Gamitana Island, is working with two families who will show us the culture of their ancestors, their language and customs, clothing and dances.

In our modern, civilized world we have all but forgotten the existence of ancestral cultures and traditions. An ancient indigenous tradition like the Ese Eja reveals to us the customs and way of life of indigenous peoples. They gift us with the opportunity to have a direct contact with a people of ancient warriors and hunters and to share their ancestral ways.

We can return this gift by helping their economy and buying some of the products they make.

Day 3: Yakari – Canopy Jungle Adventure.

9:30 a.m.- The 30 minute hike to the hanging high canopy bridge and zip lines penetrates the virgin rainforest on a trail that winds through many species of trees, some of which are more than a thousand years old.

The start of the adventure circuit is reached by climbing a tower and stairway that ascends to the treetops and a platform at 27m above the floor of the forest.

You will feel the breeze on your face as you cross the hanging bridge, 89m long, which leads to a platform 37m above ground wrapped around the huge trunk of an ironwood tree, one of the densest and strongest to be found in the rainforest.

The throbbing symphony of birdcalls, accompanied by the warbling of toads and crickets, pours into the liquid air of the tropical forest; orchids and other aerial plants growing amongst the high branches can be observed at close hand as can the nests of the many birds that make their home here.

We return across the canopy bridge and ascend to the high platform that marks the start of the zip-line cable, almost 200m long, along which we fly through the air like eagles narrowly missing the foliage along the way, to a platform 27m high.

The breathtaking views are only matched by the excitement of overcoming our fears and the adrenaline that courses through us as we leap off the platform supported by the high security harnesses that connect us to the zip-line cable.

The 75m long log walkway, hanging 27m above the floor, leads off this platform, a risky balancing act, and takes us to the platform at the start of the second zip line, a 160m fly back to the tower and stairwell that descends to the forest floor.

12.30 p.m. Return to the tambo lodge restaurant.

After a well-deserved lunch, we take to the river in kayaks, well protected with high quality life jackets, and accompanied by a motor boat that guarantees extra security; this level one activity is relaxing and accessible for all.

Flowing downstream, carried by the river, or fighting the current upstream we are able to observe the many birds that populate these otherwise inaccessible banks of the river, flying across our path as they call us away from their hidden nests.

This is also a fine opportunity to bathe in the waters of the river and complete our day of jungle adventure and new experiences.

4.00 p.m. Return to Yakari

Day 5: Tambo lodge– Parrot’s Clay Lick – Puerto Maldonado – Cusco or Lima.

Parrots and macaws need to eat rich clay that provides them with the salts and minerals necessary to metabolize and neutralize the toxins and acids of the flowers, fruits, and seeds upon which they feed.

Early each day, therefore, they congregate at the salt licks, clay walls along the rivers and streams in the Madre de Dios region of the Amazon rainforest.

We offer you the opportunity to see this spectacle, one of the most beautiful sights of the natural world; the parrots, of which nine species can be observed, and the six species of macaws form a symphony of colour and sound which is difficult to describe.

5:00 AM – We embark on the river for our destination the Cachuela Parrot Salt-lick.

The trip of an hour and a half affords the unique opportunity to observe the flora and fauna in its natural habitat Majestic trees with breathtaking jungle vegetation form a background to this dawn outing during which our appreciation of the interconnectedness of man and his environment will be enhanced.

6:30 AM – Upon arrival we will place ourselves at a discreet distance to await the arrival of the various species of parrot and macaw that congregate here every morning; in a spectacular display of colour and sound, hundreds of wild parrots and macaws congregate for their breakfast of mineral rich clay.

Emerald greens, golden yellows, flashing reds and bright blues, colors difficult to imagine without having seen them, melt and reform in kaleidoscopic patterns before our eyes in one of the most beautiful displays in the world.

This beautiful dawn display lasts for about an hour during which time you will be able to film and take fantastic photos.
